NAFDAC Intercepts KANO Bound Counterfeit Drugs

Aftermath an intelligence and surveillance report mounted at Iddo Motor Park in the Oyingbo ,Ebute-Metta Area of Lagos,Nigeria,by National Agency For Food and Drug Administration(NAFDAC) ,a trailer load of counterfeit pharmaceutical products due for Kano has beed nabbed by the agency.

The intercepted products included Tramadol and others which contains Toluene diisocyanate 80/20(TDI which is a highly regulated and controlled chemical that could be used as a precursor in the production of illicit drugs and other  dangerous products that are inimical to human health.

According to Dr Yetunde Oni who is the acting Director General of NAFDAC, the purveyors of these chemicals used bundles of second hand cloths(okrika),measuring tapes,screw drivers,food products among other means to conceal the counterfeit products.

Dr Oni stated that other counterfeited products found in the truck are Dr Relly Extra (Paracetamol,Diclofenac and Caffeine tabs 325mg 50mg;Dicloforte 550(Diclofenac Sodium 50mg) 470 cartons x20x 5x10x1x10 tabs;Toluene discocyanate 80/20(TDI),10 drums x250kg Tramadol 225mg/200mg,25 cartons among others.

Dr Oni also stated that the agency has not registered any Tramadol 225mg or 200 mg strength while the type of the Tramadol that was intercepted is not approved by the agency.NAFDAC
