The President and Chairman-in-Council of Nigerian Institute Of Public Relations, Dr Rotimi Oladele has lamented the inability of the Federal Government of Nigeria to market its policies to the citizenry.
He opined that over the years, the government has failed in utilising communications to market or project its public service policies noting that public policy marketing assists government to sample views and opinions of the citizenry before taking major policy decisions.
He was speaking with select journalists in Lagos recently.
Oladele who is also the Managing Director of Megavon (West Africa)Limited therefore called on government to always inject the policies through the media as news to create a debate before they are finally legislated or pronounced.
”They should throw it into the public and allow people to talk about it ”
Continuing, he said ”policy marketing is the only way out for government to engender its achievements in the hearts of the populace because it is going to be the decision of the people not the decision of the government”
He also advised journalists most especially brand journalists to see themselves as dual citizens,as individuals and also professionals who should always analyse issues critically as well contribute meaningfully to the growth of the country.
